1947
Robert Johnstone establishes an architectural office in Oak Park, IL after graduating from IIT.
1970's
Robert works for the City of Chicago's Architectural Office on the continuous expansion of O'Hare airport.
1978
Jim Johnstone, Robbert's son, joins together with his father in a construction business focusing on renovations of historic homes in the Frankn Lloyd Wright districts of Oak Park and River Forest, along with the Oak Brook and Hindsdale communities.
1980
Johnstone Contracting begins fabricating its own millwork in a rented facility in Oak Park
1985
Johnstone Contracting purchases its own building for a showroom and a fabricating facility.
1990's
Key Interiors begins working on specialized medical office interiors and purchases a larger facility in Franklin Park enabling it to expand its market reach into other areas of commercial work. Jim's sons begin to join the company as third generation owners.
2002
Key Interiors sells off the fabricating portion of the business to focus on designing, building, and furnishing all types of office interiors.
2009
The Global Financial Crises hits the economy. Key Interiors reacts by finding new suppliers with products of exceptional value so that their clients keep moving forward in difficult times.
2012
Key Interiors continues to expand its horizons beyond the immediate Chicago area, beginning to do work for the US Government and private industries in other states. An excellent, well-trained project management team makes this feasible.
