Where to Donate Used Office Furniture in Chicago

November 26, 2019

Where_to_donate_office_furniture_chicago.jpgAn office redesign is one of those exciting “out with the old, in with the new” experiences – except for one important detail: you are likely to wind up with used office furniture that you no longer want or need.

Naturally, storing these excess items on-site is not a welcome idea, since they will just take up space and add clutter. And moving them to a warehouse or storage facility does not make sense either since as noted, these are items that you no longer have use for.

While Key Interiors does not accept used office furniture, we want to provide you with resources to donate your used office furniture to a worthy Chicago-area charity. Here are some suggestions:

Donate Used Office Furniture to Chicago Public Schools

There are over 600 schools within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) system, and you can be assured that at any given time, several of them would be delighted to accept your used office furniture donation. You can specify a specific school or community if you wish, or let the CPS direct your donation to where they deem the need is greatest. To learn more, visit the CPS’s Partnership Office.

Donate Used Office Furniture via Zealous Good

Zealous Good is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that connects individuals and businesses that have excess goods to donate, with local charities in need. There are 4 steps in the process:

  1. Visit www.zealousgood.com and complete a brief form describing what you want to donate (e.g. chairs, workstations, tables, etc.).
  2. The Zealous Good team will spring into action and contact charities that need your donation (note: if you need the charity to pick-up items at your location, this may reduce the level of interest).
  3. Once Zealous Good finds a match, they will let you know. If there’s more than one potential recipient, you will have the opportunity to choose your preferred charity.
  4. Complete your donation, either by moving the items to the charity, or having them pick items up from your location.

Donate Used Office Furniture via the Freecycle Network

Freecycle is a nonprofit organization that runs the (aptly entitled) Freecycle Network, which is a web service that connects donors with recipients. All kinds of goods and services are donated over the Freecycle Network, including of course used office furniture. Learn more and get started here.

Donate Used Office Furniture to Goodwill

Goodwill Industries is one of the world’s biggest nonprofit organizations, and many locations will gratefully accept used office furniture and equipment. Learn more and get started here.

The Bottom Line

When you donate your used office furniture in Chicago, you will feel great, support your community, and help the environment. Everyone wins! Contact us today and see how we can help you donate any furniture you have.
